Mikey from the Park is always a good time
Mikey’s home bar is The Park in Burbank. He’s an APA 7, and an excellent shot.
I met Mikey from the Park one March evening after one of the first times I ever played at The Park. I had been there running the table awhile and was about to leave. Gave the table to a 2 and headed out. Ran into a mutual friend, who basically said we HAD to play. I had an early flight, but thought, What the Heck. How about we play for $5? He said he only had a $20. That’s fine, we play for $10 and we went head to head.
He ran down to one ball and couldn’t get there. I ran out, grabbed the $20 from off the light and headed out the door. Mikey was stunned. The look on his face was priceless. I could tell he was thinking “Who the hell was that?! She came into MY bar and beat ME? WTF??” And as I was leaving, I thought damn….don’t be an A-hole….so I went back in bought him a beer and told him I’d see him again.
In hindsight, I’m glad I went back in. Mikey from the Park has been one of my favorite sparring partners and he can pull off some awesome shots. When we get together, it’s always a good time. I can relax and have fun practicing, and we both come up with some winning unnecessarily-hard shots. And sometimes we pull them off…..and we both get SO EXCITED! It’s nice to have a kindred spirit that is almost as obsessed as I am with the game.
One day, we were messing around and I taught him to Jump. It took less than an hour. And now, with a bunch of practice and a little bit of an obsession, go check out his Instagram — he makes some INCREDIBLE jump shots. One more weapon in the arsenal. Even if it isn’t legal in APA, it is in BCA and UPA! And I’ll be damned if it isn’t one of the funnest shots to try while we are racing!
